SAIL Management Trainee (Technical) Admit Card 2026 — Exam Feb 23

Eligible disciplines: Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Mining Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering, ICTM (Information & Communication Technology). Candidates must have Bachelor's degree with at least 60% marks (55% for SC/ST per SAIL norms) in respective discipline.

Exam is 3 hours online with 120-150 MCQ questions totaling 150-180 marks. Syllabus includes: Technical Knowledge (40%) - discipline-specific topics, General Awareness (20%), English (15%), Reasoning & Aptitude (25%). No negative marking typically. Qualifying marks around 40-50% depending on difficulty level and category.

Candidates who pass written exam proceed to Group Discussion (GD) + Interview round (April-May). GD assesses communication and group dynamics. Interview evaluates technical knowledge, personality, and suitability for SAIL. Combined GD + Interview score is weighted equally with written exam. Personal interview carries about 20-30% weightage in final selection.

MT-Technical gets Level 7 pay (₹44,900-₹62,500) with DA, HRA, medical allowance, etc. Total CTC during training: ₹60,000-₹70,000/month. After confirmation, CTC increases to ₹90,000-₹1,10,000+/month with career progression. Additional benefits: ESIC, SAIL health scheme, housing loan, vehicle loan, free transit accommodation during training.

Training period is 2 years (24 months), divided into phases. First 6 months at SAIL central training center, then department-specific training at assigned steel plant (Bhilai, Rourkela, Durgapur, or Bokaro). Training covers plant operations, safety, management principles, and hands-on experience. Trainees receive full salary and hospitality during training. After completion, posted to permanent location.

SAIL has 5 major integrated steel plants: Bhilai Steel Plant (Chhattisgarh), Rourkela Steel Plant (Odisha), Durgapur Steel Plant (West Bengal), Bokaro Steel Plant (Jharkhand), Burnpur Alloy Steel Plant (West Bengal). Additionally, remote locations, SMS facilities, and other units. Posting depends on operational requirement and your performance during training.

Selected candidates after interview undergo medical examination by SAIL authorized medical practitioners. General medical fitness, height-weight proportionality, vision, hearing, and cardiac fitness are checked. For candidates with medical history or previous health issues, additional tests may be recommended. Medical certificate should state fitness for technical duties in steel plant environment with temperature extremes.
